Numerificación de una persona

Type of project

Analog Photograpgy 35mm

Date

May 2024

Location

Pontevedra, Spain

This series of analog photographs explores the following idea:
Human beings have always tried to understand and control everything around them. To do this, we assign numerical values to everything, which allows us to compare and streamline the study of our surroundings. However, when applying this numerical system to people, it leads to the dehumanization of the individual, reducing them to a mere number.
This is what I aim to express in this project by depicting various parts of the body alongside sheets containing numerical information that reduce each part or aspect to a simple digit. For example: half a head with a test paper attempting to quantify someone’s intellect; one eye uncovered while the other is covered by an optometrist’s paper, quantifying how well a person sees; a mouth spitting out a purchase receipt, reducing the value of what one eats to the price paid for it; feet standing on a chart of optimal weights like a scale, representing the reduction of body weight to a number considered optimal or not; and finally, an arm drawing blood with a paper showing the blood test results, quantifying the blood’s characteristics, contents, and type.
